Johansson: EU lacks migration policy and some remote Greek islands now carrying the burden

European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi gave a press conference in Mytilene, on the island of Lesvos on Monday. Earlier there had been a demonstration in the town against the construction of a new migrant facility on the island and the proposals for the new EU pact on migration, which ended without incident.

Johansson said that there was a lack of a European migration policy and that some remote Greek islands were now carrying the burden, adding that this was not acceptable. “We must make migration a European issue. I understand that there are limits to people’s patience and these have been exceeded,” she said.
