Inflammatory statements by Turkish officials ‘do not help dialogue’, Alt FM Varvitsiotis says

Europe cannot only talk about offering Turkey a “path strewn with roses” when it is a country that breaks international law, Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis underlined earlier on Friday in an interview with radio “Parapolitika”, stressing that the message being sent was clear.

“The European Union has shown that there is also the difficult path, the path of sanctions,” he said, adding that Greek-Turkish relations will be examined at the European Council meeting in March.

Commenting on recent statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he said that inflammatory statements by Turkish officials are not helpful to the dialogue which, in order to continue, requires that unilateral provocations be avoided.
